Author Dania Santana Launches
Her First Bilingual Children’s Book that
Celebrates Diversity and Multiculturalism
at Hispanicize 2016 in Miami
The Dominican Author launches her first bilingual children’s book that teaches children and parents about diversity, family values and acceptance. Special book signing will be held at the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism booth during Hispanicize 2016.
Not many books are available to thousands of Latino parents looking to teach their children about culture. According to the Cooperative Children’s Book Center (CCBC), despite some improvement on the number of children’s books by and about people of color, only 10% of children’s books in more than 20 years contain multicultural content; a problem that author Dania Santana decided to tackle head-on by creating children’s books in which Latino children can see themselves reflected.
Inspired by her own family, Dania Santana’s first bilingual book titled ‘La Familia Cool: El Tesoro Más Valioso / The Most Valuable Treasure,’ from PreK12 Plaza publisher, tackles topics such as heritage, cultural diversity, fitting in, preventing bullying and much more. The story, based on the characters originally created for her site La Familia Cool, is the first of many she intends to write to tell the story of American Latino children.
Dania Santana has a journalism background and has served as an expert speaker on several conferences and is also a content creator for many brands. She is also a finalist for this year’s Tecla Awards at Hispanicize in the category of Best Spanish Content Creator.
She will be signing her bilingual children’s book at the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism booth next week in Miami from Monday, April 4th to Thursday, April 7. Interested attendees to check the book signing schedule at the booth.
Hispanicize is a launch pad for creative endeavors, new products, technologies, marketing campaigns, films, and, new books targeting Latinos in the U.S.; it was the perfect match to have author Dania Santana launch her book in this platform.
“We are proud to support Dania in this venture, said Wendy Justo of DR’s Ministry of Tourism. Teaching children the value and beauty of their heritage, especially when they are growing up in the United States, helps them understand where they come from. We love that some of the characters of the book are Dominican, because we want them to know that the Dominican Republic is also a part of them too, a second home that they can always come back to.”
‘La Familia Cool: El Tesoro Más Valioso / The Most Valuable Treasure’ is the first bilingual picture book fit for children ages 6-9 that talks about celebrating diversity, family values and identity within a Latino family. The book tells the story of two cousins, who after being bullied refuse to go to school to the surprise of their moms. Excited by the promise of seeing a family treasure, the kids agree to go to school. Later, they are thrilled to go on the journey of the most valuable treasure and your children will be too!
